Rourkela (Orissa): Vishwa Hindu Parishad
(VHP) on Friday said it would launch a nation-wide agitation
against allotment of around 6000 acres of land near Puri for
establishment of a university.
"There was no justification for the Naveen Patnaik
government to allot such vast land for a university. We will
launch a vigorous agitation across the country against this
illegal act," VHP General Secretary Subhas Chouhan told
reporters here.
The land allotted for Vedanta University include 1300
acres belonging to Lord Jagannath, Chouhan said adding that
even Harvard and Oxford University campus do not have such
vast areas.
By allotting the land belonging to Lord Jagannath, the
state government had been playing with the "sentiments of
Hindus", the VHP leader said.
Chouhan said the BJD government has been looking after
the interest of big industrialists ignoring the common people
and farmers.
Just to gain some minority votes, the state government
allowed an European team to visit riot-affected Kandhamal
providing them security and hospitality while opposing the
visit of BJP delegation and VHP leader Praveen Togadia,
Chouhan alleged.
Even the killer of religious leader like Laxmananda
Saraswati were not been arrested and they were moving freely,
the VHP leader alleged.
