VK Singh ready to venture into politics

Former Army chief General VK Singh on Tuesday said that he was ready to venture into politics if it is in the interest of the nation.

Jaipur: Former Army chief General VK Singh on Tuesday said that he was ready to venture into politics if it is in the interest of the nation, and added that this did not mean that he had already made his foray into politics.

"It is said that ``cross the bridge, when it comes``. So, I will cross the bridge, only when it comes. First, let things happen, then we will see. See, there are a lot of options in this country. I have said that if anything happens which would be in the interest of the country, then I am ready to venture into that territory. That does not mean I have made my foray into politics or I am joining a political party," General (retired) Singh said.

There have been speculations in the media that the former army chief has plans to join politics, after he shared the dais first with anti-graft crusader Anna Hazare and then yoga guru Baba Ramdev.

General (retired) Singh, however, denied that politics is always dirty and stated that there are some honest politicians as well, but unfortunately they are not in the limelight.

"Politics does not always mean that politicians are corrupt, politics can also be clean. There are a lot of honest politicians; I think they have not reached a high position. So, politics does not always mean that there is dirt; there are some islands too. If these islands reach a certain position, then the country can go a long way," he said.

Commenting on the popularity of the agitations against corruption, General (retired) Singh said that the number of supporters can`t measure the success of a movement.

Instead, he said that if a movement could bring about a transformation in the mindset of the people and awaken them, then they would be successful in the right sense.

"See, this comparative study is more of a general study. If you see a crowd, you say they are successful, if there is a small crowd, then it is assumed that they are unsuccessful. I believe that you have to go to the people to find out about this. You have to go and speak to them to find out what they feel. If they are successful in awakening the people of this country against corruption, then I believe that they are successful," he said. (ANI)
