New Delhi: A Delhi court today issued
bailable warrant against a witness who failed to depose before
it in an extortion case against extradited gangster Abu Salem.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja issued
bailable warrant of Rs 2,000 against Puneet Khanna, who is one
of the complainants in the case.

The court passed the order after noting that the
witness had failed to appear before it without specifying any
reason.

The complainant Rajat Nagrath, who could not complete
recording his statement on December 15, was also not present
during the proceedings.

A Delhi police officer, who recorded the FIR in
connection with the case, was examined during the brief
proceedings in the court.

The court now posted the matter for March six for
recording statement of other witnesses including the
complainant.

Salem is being tried along with others for making
extortion calls to Nagrath and Khanna in 2002.

The statement of Nagrath, who had filed a complaint
against Salem and others in 2002 with the Delhi Police`s
Special Cell alleging the gangster was demanding Rs five crore
as protection money, was recorded in-camera on December 15
following his request.
