New Delhi: Terming the Lokpal Bill readied by the government as anti-people, a furious Team Anna on Thursday said that the government is behaving like a big brother and is not at all serious about fighting corruption.
Addressing a press conference, Arvind Kejriwal said, “We reject the bill, it should be taken back and redrafted. We feel that those who drafted the bill don’t know law.”
Slamming the government, he further said that it appears as if the government feels that the people are corrupt while the politicians are clean as it just covers 10% of politicians and no political party and because of that, there is no provision for protecting the complainant.
”This bill makes Lokpal merely a post office. We are interested in removing corruption and this bill will fail to do so,” he said.
“Corruption cannot be removed in stages, there has to be a complete holistic approach,” he pointed out.
“We are standing at the same position where we were in April, this bill is worse off than what was presented in August,” Kejriwal said while reiterating their announcement that Anna Hazare will go on fast from December 27 at Azad Maidan in Mumbai.
On the issue of minority quota in the Lokpal, Kejrwial said that he has nothing to comment on it, “Government should by its precedence.” However, he slammed Lalu Prasad Yadav and demanded to know from the former chief minister of Bihar as to what has he done to combat corruption.
Another key Team Anna member Kiran Bedi said that CBI is also very upset with the bill.
“As per Section 173 of CrPC once investigation is complete and chargesheet is filed, there is no one between investigating officer and the court…they are going to amend the CrPC. Not just the CBI, it will affect the local police too,” she said while stressing that the battle for Lokpal is now also a “save CBI campaign as well”.
