New Delhi: Tara Shahdeo's husband Ranjit Singh Kohli alias Rakibul Hassan is maintaining that allegations against him of forcing the national shooter to convert her religion to Islam and threatening her to push her into prostitution on refusing are false yet a local court on Thursday granted the police 14-day transit remand of Kohli.
While Tara demanded a CBI probe into the case and thanked the police for acting promptly on her complaint, Kohli told the investigators that his wife knew that he's a Muslim and had never forced her to change her religion.
Raqibullah alias Ranjit Singh Kohli was born as a Sikh but converted into Islam around seven years back. He told the investigators that he runs Kaushalya Biotech Institute which is named after his mother. He also claimed that he runs a high profile liasioning network and knows most government officials, businessmen, politicians and even people in judicial services.
Kohli told the investigators that in 2007 he met a sorcerer called Arif Baba who told him that he should change his religion and convert to Islam.
After their marriage, his wife Tara claims that she only came to realise that Kohli belonged to a different when her husband received a card by a Jharkhand Minister who had addressed him as Raqibul Hassan.
Ranjit Kohli told that he has good relations with two Cabinet Ministers of Jharkhand - Minority Welfare Minister Haji Hussain Ansari and City Development Minister Suresh Paswan. While talking to media, Ansari has accepted that he knows Rakibul from past one year. He had also invited Rakibul to his house for a supper, where he (Rakibul) said that he has converted to Islam. Whereas Ranjit says that he is Hindu but has been reading “namaaz” from the year 2007.
Responding on the complaint by his wife of beating her, Kohli admitted hitting Tara on one occasion. He told investigators that on August 14 the couple had a fight after Tara and her mother-in-law had a tiff. He admits that he had beaten her but clearly told them it was not because he wanted her to convert to Islam.
Tara had also alleged that she came to know about her husband's faith only after her marriage and that she was only able to SMS her family on August 19 and that led to her rescue.
Kohli facing charges of deceit, exploitation and torture lodged by his wife Tara Shahdeo, and his mother were arrested in Delhi on August 26.
