Mumbai: Afzal Usmani, who escaped from Mumbai Police custody today, is a suspected member of home-grown terror group Indian Mujahideen.
Police suspect Usmani stole the cars used to transport explosives for the 2008 blasts in Ahmedabad and failed bombings in Surat later that year.
He is also suspected to have planted the bombs in the two Gujarat cities.
He was arrested from Uttar Pradesh in August 2008.
Usmani is reported to have joined the Mumbai underworld before becoming a terrorist.
He had faced cases of attempt to murder and firing in the past.
