New Delhi: Days after Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of killing Mahatma Gandhi, AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh on Monday stoked the fire. On microblogging website Twitter, Singh said: Singh`s statement came a day after the BJP complained to the Election Commission over Rahul`s remarks and sought action against the Congress vice-president and derecognition of the party. Meanwhile, Union Law Minister Kapil Sibal described the BJP`s move as “drama”. “No second thoughts on this...they (BJP) may go to EC as many times as they want,” said Sibal. The Law Minister said: "They (BJP) also don`t want anyone to remind the country that the RSS was banned for anti-national activities and that Nathuram Godse was an RSS man steeped in the ideology of intolerance and right-wing fascism." "So when Rahul Gandhi rightly points this out, they react -- more out of the fear of discovery, than out of defending the truth," he said. Sibal said the "undeniable truth" is that Godse wasn`t just a member of the RSS, he was an intellectual leader of the group. He said the late Morarji Desai has mentioned this point in his book. On March 06, Rahul Gandhi had also accused the BJP-led opposition of spurring communal and ethnic violence as a tool to electoral victory. At a public rally in Sonale village near Bhiwandi in Thane district, Rahul had also said: “The RSS shot and killed Mahatma Gandhi. Now they (BJP) are adopting their (RSS) principles and speaking about them. Sardar Patel was a Congress leader and he clearly wrote about the RSS. It opposed Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel. Now, they are appropriating the Congress ideology and its leaders.” Calling Rahul`s statement as childish, the BJP had said: “It shows his (Rahul`s) lack of knowledge of history. He should read history, the court order giving a clean chit to the RSS in the case and the statement of the then Home Minister in Parliament.” RSS Central Executive Committee member Ram Madhav had appealed to the the Chief Election Commissioner to initiate appropriate action against Rahul Gandhi for his remarks against the RSS.
