New Delhi: Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Friday appealed to the people of North East, who have left for their native place in fear they will be attacked in retaliation to the communal clashes in Assam, to come back to the respective cities.
Making a statement in Lok Sabha, the Home Minister said, “Parliament is with the people of the North East.”
Making an appeal to the people who have fled back to their native place Shinde said, “Come back, the country is yours irrespective of which states or cities you belong…whether it’s Manipur, Assam, Bangalore, Hyderabad.”
“Rumours are doing rounds and people are receiving threatening messages to return back to their respective states. We are investigating the cases and are also tracking the social media,” Shinde said.
“We will detect those who are spreading rumours. Strict action will be taken against the culprits.”
In an extraordinary move, Shinde praised Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar for swift action and hailed his decision to send state Home Minister R Ashoka to railway station on Wednesday night to appeal to the North East people to not leave the state.
“I thank him for taking swift action and sending the Home Minister to railway station,” Shinde said.
Hordes of people from the North East are leaving cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad and Mumbai after rumours spread that they will be attacked in retaliation to the communal clashes that have been taking place in Assam.
