New Delhi: The winter session of Parliament
will commence from November 19 and end on December 22.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the
Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA) chaired
by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
The session in all will have 24 sittings, Parliamentary
Affairs Minister P K Bansal told reporters after the meeting.
At the end of the budget session this year, both the
government and the opposition had favoured at least 100
sittings of Parliament in a year and the winter session to be
a six-week affair.
Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar had even felt that
Parliament should sit for at least 110 days in a year.
Normally, the winter session lasts for four weeks
beginning in the last week of November and ending just ahead
Christmas.
