New Delhi: CBI today told a court here that
witnesses who deposed against former union minister Jagdish
Tytler for his alleged role in a 1984 anti-Sikh riot case are
unreliable and made false statements to implicate him.

"During investigation, only two persons came forward to
depose against Tytler and both Surinder and Jasbir Singh are
unreliable. They have made false statements to implicate
Tytler," Additional Public Prosecutor Sanjay Kumar contended
before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Rakesh Pandit.

Kumar further contended that Surinder, who died recently,
gave contradictory versions of the 1984 incident allegedly
involving Tytler.

"In his first affidavit on January 12, 2002 before
Nanavati Commission, the witness Surinder Singh had said the
mob of nearly 1000 people led by Tytler had attacked Gurudwara
Pulbangash killing Thakur Singh and Badal Singh.

While in an affidavit on August 5, 2002, he had denied
any role of Tytler and said he had signed the earlier
affidavit without knowing its contents," the CBI contended.

The court after hearing CBI counsel posted the case for
further hearing on October 31 when the probe agency will
further argue on the version given by another witness Jasbir
Singh.
