Women get exclusive coach in Delhi metro

Women in the national capital got a Gandhi Jayanti gift from the Delhi Metro with a special coach being reserved for them from on Saturday.

New Delhi: Women in the national capital got a Gandhi Jayanti gift from the Delhi Metro with a special coach being reserved for them from on Saturday.

The spaces on the platform from where passengers get into the first coach were marked as `Women`s only` in pink colour at all the stations, a DMRC spokesman said.

On Saturday being the first day, many people were not aware about the move, but there were personnel at stations to guide them.
There were announcements also on the Metro that the first coach would be for women only. "It was nice to have a special coach for women. It is really good. We can hope to have a much more comfortable ride on the Metro," Sakshi, a software professional said.

With this, Delhi Metro will became the second Metro in the world to reserve special coaches for women after the Dubai new age transport system.

The reserved ladies` coach will be the first after the driver`s cab in every train. Children up to 12 years, accompanied by women passengers, will also be allowed to travel in the reserved coach, the spokesman said.
Delhi Metro decided to reserve one coach for women in view of the increasing number of passengers belonging to the fair sex travelling on the Metro.

The DMRC has already placed stickers on the platform to mark the entry to the first coach reserved for women and will depute staff for informing passengers about this.
