New Delhi: A Delhi court on Friday sent Zee News editors, Sudhir Chaudhary (Zee News) and Samir Ahluwalia (Zee Business), to 14-day judicial custody in connection with a case relating to the expose of Coalgate involving Congress MP and industrialist Naveen Jindal.
Jindal’s firm Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) had figured in the list of beneficiaries in the Rs 1.86 lakh crore coal block allocation scam.
The Zee editors were on Wednesday sent to two days’ police custody, a day after they were arrested late in the night on Tuesday by the Delhi Police.
Today, while producing the two editors’ before the Saket court the Delhi Police said that they did not require the custody of the duo any longer after which the court sent them to judicial custody.
The duo has filed a fresh bail plea which will be heard in the afternoon tomorrow.
Zee News had earlier termed the unwarranted arrests as illegal and described it as a crude attack on the freedom of the press.
Several experts and politicians had also come out in support of the editors, questioning the way the senior journalists were being treated.
