After NYT, Google and Outlook, Amazon hit by 30-minute `unexplained` outage

US shopping site Amazon.com reportedly fell prey to the trending incidence of websites going offline for hours.

London: US shopping site Amazon.com reportedly fell prey to the trending incidence of websites going offline for hours.

After New York Times site, Microsoft`s Outlook.com and Google`s two-minute offline status in the previous weeks, Amazon.com was down for about half-an-hour before being restored.

According to the BBC, Amazon`s UK site was not affected by the issue but its Canadian home page also showed an error message.

The support section of Intel `s website also became unavailable for a period on Monday and the company said it was due to an internal issue and it was a coincidence that it had occurred shortly after Amazon`s problem.

Google faced a two-minute downtime on Friday that affected the firm`s main search page as well as its Gmail email service, YouTube video site and Drive storage product while Microsoft`s Outlook.com faced a three-day-long disruption.

The New York Times cited an `internal issue` with its servers which made the newspaper unavailable for two hours on Wednesday.

Principal technology analyst at the Davies Murphy Group consultancy, Chris Green said that it is very unusual to see such a number of high-profile web sites all suffering peak-time outages within the course of a few days of each other adding that since the outages are still unexplained the implications are huge, the report added.
