Washington: Internet search giant Google has reportedly launched a toolset, which will help developers port their apps from Chrome desktop browser to iOS and Android.
The move is being seen as an effort by the search giant, to expand the Chrome platforms, which is vital for its Chrome web browser and Chrome OS.
The tool is capable of porting the necessary Chrome APIs like notifications and access to local storage, required by web apps on mobile.
Google has used the open source Apache Cordova toolchain to develop a compatibility layer that allows programmer to wrap their Chrome apps in a native application shell and distribute the app via Google Play and Apple`s App Store.
Google`s Chrome mobile apps come following the September launch of Chrome apps that run offline by default and act like native on Windows, Mac, and Chrome OS.
The company is currently previewing its toolset to see if any improvements can be made to it.
