New Delhi: Popular search engine Google has marked the passing of Nelson Mandela by placing a link of The Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory on its homepage.
The Google Cultural Institute in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory set up the website in 2011 to digitally preserve the documents and photos of the former South African President and anti-apartheid revolutionary.
Mandela fought against South Africa’s apartheid government and spent 27 years in prison. After his released in 1990, he worked with the incumbent South African President FW de Klerk to abolish apartheid. He won the first multiracial election held in 1994 and became South Africa`s first black president.
Nelson Mandela, fondly called Madiba by Africans, died on 5 December due to lung cancer.
