Google to restrict sharing of 'adult content' on Blogger

New Delhi: Internet search giant Google is restricting public sharing of adult content on its Blogger platform staring next month.

“Starting March 23, 2015, users won't be able to publicly share images and video that are sexually explicit or show graphic nudity on Blogger,” said Google.

The company said it will not delete existing blogs that have sexually explicit or graphic nude images or video, but will make the blogs private after March 23.

Although no content will be deleted from these blogs, private content can only be seen by the owner or admins of the blog and people who the owner has shared the blog with, reads a post on Google support page.

However, Google said it will allow nudity if the content gives substantial public benefit such as artistic, educational, documentary, or scientific contexts.

Many users on Monday confirmed about getting emails from Google advising them of the change in policy.

Google's current policy allows adult content on Blogger, including images or videos that contain nudity or sexual activity, but requires that the blogs be marked as ‘adult’ in Blogger settings.

And blogs marked as 'adult' are placed behind an ‘adult content’ warning interstitial when users access them.

The company is yet to give a comment on why it had made changes to its Blogger content policy.
