Govt doesn't want you to even watch porn in private, blocks over 800 sites

New Delhi: The government has asked telecom operators and internet service providers (ISPs) to block more than 800 porn websites, according to sources.

The telecom department has reportedly sent an order last week to block 857 porn sites.

Following the order, service providers have already started blocking popular porn sites like Pornhub and Brazzers.

Users of MTNL, BSNL and ACT broadband have claimed that porn websites aren’t opening on their systems whereas Airtel, Tata Photon and cable internet users are not facing any such issues, reports an English daily.

Taking a dig at the inaccessibility of porn sites over various internet service providers in the country, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma took to Twitter to criticise the move.

In a series of tweets, the "Sarkar" director wrote: "Considering the sheer popularity of porn whichever government owns up to banning it, is sure to be wiped out of existence in next election. Government should work on finding ways to steer the content not to go in wrong directions rather than to block it.

"To deprive consenting adults of the harmless fun they are having of watching porn is equivalent of what Taliban and Isis is doing to freedom.

"To ban porn saying it will be seen by who shouldn`t see it is like saying to stop traffic because there will be accidents," Varma added.

Earlier in July, the government has assured the Supreme Court that all possible measures would be taken to block porn sites, particularly those dealing with child pornography.
