New Delhi: As Australia and India faced off on Thursday to compete for a spot in the Cricket World Cup final, conversation on Facebook exploded as millions joined in ball-by-ball commentary during the crucial game.

Globally, 8.8 million people drove 24.5 million interactions (posts, comments and likes) around the match on Facebook. In India, 6 million people had 17 million interactions.

In addition to the volume of global conversation, Facebook’s data team looked at the top demographics and most talked-about players on Facebook during the match.

For Team India, Virat Kohli dominated the conversation, while Steve Smith was the most buzzed about Australian player.

Indian Captain MS Dhoni shared a photo and commented on the loss, saying he is unsure whether he will play in the next World Cup.

Sachin Tendulkar reacted to India loss in this post, saying: "A tough game today and a loss is always difficult to handle. But you have played some terrific cricket throughout and all the fans have enjoyed watching you….”
