New online game reveals how much your personal data is exposed to risk
Sydney: A new online game allows users to understand how much their personal data is at risk of getting exposed and how much even the smallest piece of that information can be a `goldmine` to some.
The game, Data Dealer, has a Farmville-like feel to it where users get to collect thousand of make-believe profiles coming across characters such as a nurse who sells patients` records or manager of a tanning salon giving away clients` details for money.
According to news.com.au, the information collected contains unimaginable details about dietary habits, birthdays, names, addresses and buying habits and if one comes across a dating website, data about first sexual encounter can be easily accessed.
The player can then sell the acquired information to a major employer, security agency or rental authority in a bid to earn cash and become a data dealing mogul.
One of the game`s designers, Wolfie Christl said that most people cannot really imagine what it means not only to collect but also to collate and to combine all these massive amounts of personal data.
The report said that the not-for-profit project has been backed by the Austrian government and the City of Vienna and will be available online for free soon.
