New Delhi: Cricket ruled over the country's
cyberspace in 2010 with master-blaster Sachin Tendulkar
emerging as the most popular cricketer and Deccan Chargers as
the most popular Premier League team, according to a Google
India survey.
The new survey -- The Google 'Zeitgeist'(Spirit of the
times) 2010 -- based on Google India search queries, which
reflect what Indians were searching during the year.
Australian spinner Shane Warne held the top position in
popular international player category for the second year in a
row, the survey, which was released today, said.
The results, based on study of aggregation of billions
of queries people typed into Google search in 2010 showed that
Tendulkar moved to the first position from last year's second
spot and Deccan Chargers jumped to the top spot from the third
place in 2009.
Tendulkar is followed by Sourav Ganguly and Shane Warne
at the second and the third positions respectively in the top
10 cricketers list.
Yuvraj Singh and Rahul Dravid also found a place in the
top five list.
Among others on the list are Brett Lee (sixth), Adam
Gilchrist (seventh rank), Ryan Harris (eighth), Praveen Kumar
(ninth) and Harbhajan Singh (10th).
Surprisingly, India captain MS Dhoni and explosive opener
Virender Sehwag did not find a place in this years' list.
Among the IPL teams, Mumbai Indians cornered the second
place, while Chennai Super Kings bagged the third place.
Kolkata Knight Riders were fourth, followed by Rajasthan
Royals (fifth), Delhi Daredevils (sixth) Kings XI Punjab
(seventh) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (eighth).
Cricket was clearly on Indian minds as 'Super Over'
emerged as the most searched IPL related query on YouTube
followed by Chennai Super Kings.
Further, Yusuf Pathan, who did not make it to the IPL
Zeitgeist on Google Search, emerged as the most searched
player on YouTube.
