The image, presumed to be the work of NASA, has a line 'India at night during Diwali' embedded in it.

Interestingly, the image was created by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) scientist Chris Elvidge, in 2003 to highlight population growth over time, and not by NASA.

“Any extra light produced during Diwali is so subtle that it is likely imperceptible when observed from space,”NASA, had which captured a real image of India during Diwali above, was quoted as saying.
