UK Police to investigate `tweet abuse` cases against women

The UK police is reportedly investigating the allegations made by Twitter users about `harassment, malicious communication or bomb threats` on the popular microblogging site.

London: The UK police is reportedly investigating the allegations made by Twitter users about `harassment, malicious communication or bomb threats` on the popular microblogging site.

The Met Police said that its e-crime unit would investigate the claims made by eight people including three that were made outside London, the BBC reports.

According to the report, the probe comes in light of the recent incidents where users, especially females have been subject to online abuse and threat.

In one incident a Labour MP and a feminist campaigner were separately threatened with rape, while four female journalists, a student, and a social media manager received bomb threats by anonymous users.

Twitter admitted to having failed these women but ensured to implement faster reporting tools in its site to avoid such crimes, the report added.
