Chennai: As a part of strengthening its Research and Development centre, online media company Yahoo has planned to recruit research scholars in the coming months, a senior company official said on Thursday.
"We will hire in the coming months..." Yahoo Software Development Emerging Markets and Small business – Vice President Ramkumar Narayanan told reporters here.
The Bangalore R&D centre is the second largest centre for the online giant, the first one being the one set up at their headquarters in California, US.
Declining to elaborate on how many people would be selected for the centre, he said, at present, they employ 2,000 people comprising large number of research scholars as they serve more than 10 overseas markets.
"We have another R&D centre in Beijing and a smaller unit in Taiwan. But the India centre is the second largest centre (for Yahoo)", he said.
Besides, he said as a part of focusing on the rural communities, they would launch Yahoo service in six languages this year.
"Right now, we have launched in Tamil. We will be offering in four more...Marathi, Bengali, Telugu and Gujarati," he said.
He said though the Internet penetration is only seven percent in India, about 150 million new users, particularly from smaller towns, would be added in the next five years.
