Washington DC: Youtube has released an update for android which allows it to display videos in portrait mode making it easier to watch videos shot vertically.

According to the Verge, the vertical display is available in version 10.28 of the YouTube Android app.

Previously, YouTube would display vertical videos in full-screen landscape mode which kept the actual viewing area nearly as small as the preview screen.

The feature has not been introduced on YouTube's iOS app.
