Chandigarh: Did former Haryana DGP S P S Rathore meet Ruchika's father Subhash Girhotra about three years ago in a temple as a last-ditch effort to convince Girhotra to withdraw the case?

Head priest of Ardhanariswar temple in Surajpur, Bala Swami, told TOI that the two had met in a room in the temple. "I don't know what transpired between the two, but they met here," said Bala Swami.

Subhash Girhotra used to visit the temple every Monday, sometimes along with a woman. The woman could be Veena.

"Rathore knew that Subhash visited the temple every Monday," he said. "About three years ago, Rathore had approached me and other members of the temple committee and requested us to become mediators in reaching a compromise between them," said Bala Swami.

The temple committee agreed to arrange the meeting and according to Swami, both sat inside a room for about an hour, but probably no compromise was reached.

"We were not aware about the dispute between them at that time, but now we have come to know about the issue," said Bala Swami.

According to other committee members, Girhotra had started visiting the temple around 1988. Bala Swami said Ruchika too visited the temple at times with her father and Veena.
