Mumbai: As the nation pays homage to the martyrs of the terrorist attack of 26/11, life goes on as usual at the bucolic Ganeshpur village, twenty kilometres from Dehradun, where the hero — Gajendra Singh Bisht of the operation at Nariman House grew up and later joined the army.
There is silence around the fields where Gajendra used to help in sowing of the crops as a lad. The house whose paint is flaking away stands without any address or landmark in the name of its glorious master.
Gajendra’s mother Shivdei Devi has gone to their village Orkhund in Rudraprayag district where the villagers have constructed a gate in his memory.
Gajendra’s wife who has now shifted to another government accomodation at Chir Bagh in Dehradun has gone to Mumbai at a function that is being held in remembrance of the martyrs.
Only Gajendra’s elder brother Rajendra Singh Bisht a farmer, whose crop was damaged by drought remains at home, while his wife who is a teacher has gone to school.
Rajendra says that the politicians and social activists came on the first day after his martyrdom and no one has come ever since.
