97 people committed suicide in Mizoram during 2010

At least 97 people committed suicide in Mizoram during 2010, according to the records of the Aizawl-based New Life Charity Society.

Aizawl: At least 97 people, including nine
females committed suicide in Mizoram during 2010, according to
the records of the Aizawl-based New Life Charity Society
(NeLICS).

In a statement issued here, the NeLICS said that among
the people who committed suicide, 53 were from Aizawl city and
included two non-tribals, a man and a woman.

Majority of the men committed suicide because of being
separated with lovers and with wives, the statement said,
adding that there were two cases of suicide due to drug abuse.

The statement added that majority of those who committed
suicide were between the age of 20 to 30.
