Itanagar: Barely a week after the visit of local boundary commission team headed by justice (retd) Tarun Chatterjee, The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) today alleged that "people from Assam" had encroached land at Taraso area in Arunachal Pradesh.

A team comprising members of All Nyishi Students Union (ANSU), All Papum Pare District Students Union (APPDSU), All Kurung Kumey District Students Union (AKKDSU) and Jote Youth Association led by AAPSU president Kamta Lapung visited Taraso yesterday to take stock of the situation.

Land encroachment at Taraso has been intensified after the visit of Local Boundary Commission on November 12 last and about 400 people from Assam were identified as encroachers, Lapung said in a statement here today.

This is clear violation of the Supreme Court directive to maintain status quo. Therefore, the encroachment by the people of Assam should be brought to the attention of the local commission appointed by the apex court to study the contentious issue and submit a report, Lapung suggested.

Demanding immediate eviction of the encroachers, he called upon the state government for deployment of adequate police personnel for the security of life and properties of the people.

He also demanded establishment of an IRBn battalion headquarter at Taraso besides streamlining of directorate of border affairs and issuing a directive to all district administrations to strictly monitor such activities along all interstate boundary areas to prevent encroachment.
