Imphal: Amid blockade of highway by a Naga association in protest against holding elections in Autonomous District Councils in Manipur, the state authorities have all arrangements for the polls Wednesday in three ADCs.
The stage is set for smooth conduct of first phase elections to three ADCs in Chandel, Churachandpur and Sadar Hills with polling personnel having reached their respective,
polling stations, state election office said Tuesday.
Of the total 72 constituencies, polls to 33 seats would be held from 7 am to 3.30 pm as candidates of 39 others have already been elected uncontested, sources said.
A little over two lakh voters were eligible to exercise their franchise to elect their representatives from 139 candidates at 221 polling stations.
Sources said about 2000 polling personnel have reached their respective polling stations where central and state forces have been deployed.
The second phase of elections would be held in three other ADCs of Ukhrul, Tamenglong and Senapati districts on June two.
All Naga Students Students Association Manipur had launched economic blockade on National Highways 39 and 53 to protest against the ADC elections saying enough monetary power was not given to the councils, a charge denied by the state government.
