Guwahati: Asom Gana Parishad (AGP)
President Chandra Mohan Patowary on Saturday expressed his desire to
step down as leader of the opposition in the Assam assembly.

Patowary made the proposal at AGP`s executive
committee meeting held here this evening which discussed the
issue and decided to refer it to AGP Legislative Party (AGPLP)
to take the final decision, party spokesman Atul Bora told
reporters here.
Patowary has made the proposal so as to concentrate on
the forthcoming assembly elections in the state scheduled next
year.

The executive committee also decided to constitute an
advisory committee, comprising all past and present presidents
of the party, for organising the party for the assembly
elections, Bora said.
The party has also decided to launch a `Gana Sanjog
Yatra` (Mass Contact Rally) throughout the state from
September 6 to 16, he added.

The party`s Executive Committee would meet again on
September 19 and the General Council would meet the next day.
