AIGL leader demands arrests of Tamang murder accused

AIGL leader Pratab Khati has demanded those named in the FIR in the Madan Tamang murder case in Darjeeling should be arrested within a week.

Gangtok: All India Gorkha League [AIGL]
leader Pratab Khati has demanded those named in the FIR in the
Madan Tamang murder case in Darjeeling should be arrested
within a week and threatened Madan`s widow Bharati Tamang will
sit on an indefinite fast if the demand was not met.

Distributing copies of the internet edition of a
newspaper report on Tamang murder investigation, Khati told
reporters last evening, "the GJM has been blaming everybody
including the West Bengal government for Tamang murder but
himself."

If those behind the murder, "including the top GJM
leadership as claimed in the report", were not arrested, AIGL
leaders including the newly appointed President Bharati Tamang
will sit on a fast unto death protest, Khati said.

He said the AIGL President will fax a demand to West
Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya demanding the
immediate arrest of GJM leaders.

Khati also reminded the Chief Minister that he had
already promised to a AIGL delegation that justice will be
done.

Denouncing the frequent shutdowns in the hills, Khati
said "the AIGL will not do the politics of bandhs like the GJM
which has called for a 40-day shutdown in the hills during its
movement".

Vowing to work towards a Gorkhaland, he said "Madan
Tamang had sacrificed his life for a separate state and we
will not compromise on this."
