AITF demands investigation into Namsai violence

In a memorandum to Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu, the forum called for taking steps to uphold the peaceful coexistence between Arunachalese and non-indigenous population in Namsai sub-division.

Itanagar: The Arunachal Indigenous
Tribes` Forum (AITF) on Wednesday demanded immediate constitution of
a special investigation team to probe the recent spurt of
violence at Namsai in Lohit district.

In a memorandum to Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu, the
forum called for taking steps to uphold the peaceful
coexistence between Arunachalese and non-indigenous population
in Namsai sub-division.

It also demanded compensation and relief to the
affected families besides constitution of an independent fact
finding committee to look into the administrative breakdown at
Namsai and recommended a long-term solution.

The forum also urged the chief minister for initiating
immediate steps to ensure free and uninterrupted movement on
all roads leading to Changlang and Lohit districts.

"Till a solution is worked out, the state government
should issue immediate notification to suspend all the PRCs
already issued to non-Arunachalese in both the districts,"
AITF said.
