Rangiya (Assam): Antique artefacts and jewellery dating back to several centuries were stolen from a Sattra (Assamesse Vaishnative monastery) in Assam's Kamrup (Rural) district.

Police said today that thieves broke into the Buragohain Than Sattra at Paharpur village near Assam-Meghalaya border last midnight and took away jewellery and other items dating back to the days of the medieval Ahom Kingdom.

The stolen artefacts are valued at several lakhs of rupees though the exact value was yet to be ascertained.

An FIR has been lodged at the Nagarbera police station in this regard.
