Itanagar: Rice quota under APL category would be enhanced for Arunachal Pradesh at the earliest, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution K V Thomas has said.
The Consultative Committee for FCI for Arunachal Pradesh
called on the Union Minister on Wednesday last and pleaded for
enhancement of APL Rice quota from 44,750 quintals to 90,000
quintals per month, official sources said here Friday.
The minister also assured the committee to release the fund for construction of proposed 12 FCI godowns in Arunachal Pradesh.
He also said funds for FCI godowns would be given in the
remaining four districts, subject to acquisition of land and
proper clearance from the state government, the sources added.
The Committee also demanded for enhancement of SK Oil
quota from 636 kl to 1272 kl per month for the state on basis of rapidly growing population.
When told that the Railways were proving to be an impediment" in the timely lifting of food grains but giving priority to transportation of cement and other building materials, Thomas assured them to take up the matter with the concerned ministry immediately.
Earlier, the Centre had allocated 6678 mt of BPL Rice and 914 mt of BPL wheat under the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) at the BPL central issue price (CIP) for distribution to BPL beneficiaries during the current financial year from June 2011 to March 2012 for the state, the sources added.
