Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh has pleaded Centre to enhance the targets for the state under Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) for the current year.

State Industries, Handloom, Textile and Handicrafts Minister Tapang Taloh who called on Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Virbhadhra Singh at New Delhi yesterday urged him for early release of the margin money against the scheme stating that the allotment was inadequate to meet the demand of the youths, official sources informed in Itanagar on Tuesday.

The ongoing works of Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) at Jote in Papum Pare district and Integrated Infrastructure Development Centre (IIDC) at Bame (Basar) in West Siang district were also discussed during the meeting, sources informed.

Taloh urged Singh to see to it that instalments of the sanctioned amount are released on time. Since inception only one Community Development Project (CDP) cluster was sanctioned for the entire state, whereas eight proposals for different clusters like Cane and Bamboo, IT, Food Processing, Steel Fabrication, Wood Curving to be located in various parts of Arunachal Pradesh submitted to the Ministry which are yet to be considered, Taloh pointed out.

Highlighting the poor state of affairs of district industries centre (DIC) in the state, he said that the DICs were created in 1977-78 under Centrally sponsored schemes but subsequently transferred to the state plan. The state government could not extend required physical and financial support due to fund paucity, he said.
