Arunachal bridge mishap: PM, Sonia condole deaths
Six people had died and 25 are missing after the rope suspension bridge over the river collapsed in East Kameng district.
New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Sunday condoled the loss of lives in the bridge collapse in Arunachal Pradesh and asked authorities to initiate relief measures.
"The Prime Minister expresses shock and condoles the loss of lives in collapse of suspension bridge over Kemeng river in Seppa, Arunachal Pradesh," a PMO spokesperson said here.
Six people had died and 25 are missing after the rope suspension bridge over the river collapsed in East Kameng district yesterday.
Expressing sorrow over the loss of lives in the bridge collapse, the Congress President has asked the local authorities to place all relief measures for the service of the affected, a party release said here.
Arunachal Pradesh Governor Gen JJ Singh and Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin have also expressed grief over the mishap.
29 people were rescued yesterday after the bridge collapsed with five in a serious condition. The injured were admitted to the nearby district hospital and medical centres.
Along with the state police, rescue teams from ITBP and CRPF have been pushed into the mission to trace and rescue the survivors.
The district administration has requested the nearby Army units stationed at Tenga Cantonment in West Kameng to provide its assistance in the rescue operation.
