Arunachal MP criticises AGP`s dam stand

Lok Sabha MP from Arunachal Pradesh Takam Sanjoy has criticised Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and BJP for making the issue of building dams on rivers of the state an election issue before assembly polls of Assam due early next year.

Itanagar: Lok Sabha MP from Arunachal
Pradesh Takam Sanjoy has criticised Asom Gana Parishad (AGP)
and BJP for making the issue of building dams on rivers of the
state an election issue before assembly polls of Assam due
early next year.

"Both the political parties in Assam are trying to
make the hydro power projects in Arunachal Pradesh a poll
issue," he told reporters from New Delhi today.
UPA government is taking forward NDA government`s
agenda of building dams in North-East particularly the 2000 MW
Subansiri Lower hydro power project at Gerukamukh in Assam`s
Dhemaji district, he said.

"It is unfortunate that Prafulla Mahanta, former Chief
Minister of Assam, is opposing the dam despite his writing to
then Prime Minister A B Vajpayee favouring the dam," he said.
Despite huge natural resources, the region depends on
Centre`s aids for its development and tapping the hydropower
sector would be a panacea to the problems, he said.
