Arunachal tribe Galong renamed Galo

Aalo (Arunachal): The long-felt demand of the people of West Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh for changing the nomenclature from Galong to Galo tribe has been finally fulfilled with the Parliament passing the bill yesterday.

The Lok Sabha yesterday passed the amendment bill for changing the nomenclature to Galo from Galong by removing the suffixing, a genuine demand the community has been making since years, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki announced at a public meeting at Aalo, the headquarters town of the district today.

The tribes of the district since long have been demanding for a change in the nomenclature as they the word Gallong is from Adi community inhabiting East Siang district.

Later talking to PTI Tuki informed that the bill passed by the Lok Sabha would be raised in the Rajya Sabha for its consideration and passing and later would be send to the President for her assent before the final gazette notification being issued by the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

“This was promised by former chief minister Dorjee Khandu to the community and I am just carrying his commitment forward to fulfill the aspirations of the people,” he added.
