Guwahati: The list of Congress candidates
for the ensuing assembly polls in Assam is expected to be
declared by March 13, AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh
said on Wednesday.
He made it clear that those who have been convicted in
criminal cases will not be given ticket.
"The two-day screening committee meeting will be held
in New Delhi from tomorrow and the list can be expected by
March 13," Singh told reporters here after attending the
election committee meeting at party headquarters, Rajiv
Bhavan.
Singh, who is in-charge of the party in the state,
attended the election committee meeting to shortlist names of
candidates.
Denying any kind of dissidence in the party over
ticket distribution, the Congress leader said those who are
convicted in criminal cases will not be selected.
"Filing of chargesheet cannot be the basis for denying
tickets. Conviction in criminal case will be the criteria", he
said.
