Guwahati: Security was beefed up across
Assam following intelligence reports that ULFA and NDFB were
planning to carry out subversive activities ahead of Republic
Day.
Intelligence reports said ULFA and the anti-talk faction
of NDFB have directed their cadres to strike in upper, central
and lower Assam, police said.
Besides, a ULFA cadre arrested recently had revealed
during interrogation that he had been sent to carry out
strikes in Guwahati.
The police and security forces have identified vital
installations like oil pipelines, railway tracks, industrial
areas, besides vulnerable areas like markets, railway
stations, government offices, bridges as likely targets and
have tightened security in these places.
The banned ULFA, along with NDFB, Kamtapur Liberation
Organisation (KLO), Manipur Peoples` Liberation Front (MPLF)
and Tripura Peoples Democratic Front (TPDF) have given their
customary call for boycott of Republic Day programmes.
