Morigaon: An elephant calf was
done to death by a mob when it strayed into the paddy fields
in this Assam district, officials said today.
The three-year-old elephant strayed from the herd last
Saturday night in Sonaikuchi Hill forest of Jagiroad and
entered the fields in the area, they said.
Locals attacked the calf and seriously injured it
before it was rescued by forest officials.
Doctors treated the calf for more than two days but it
succumbed to injuries yesterday.
Police have started investigations into the attack.
