Assamese litterateur Bireswar Baruah dies

Guwahati: Noted Assamese litterateur, Bireswar Baruah died of heart attack in his residence here on Sunday.

Baruah (77) is survived by his wife, one son and a daughter.

He received Sahitya Akademy award for a collection of poems 'Anya Ek Jonak' in 2003. Among his other notable works are 'Nilimar Man', 'Ban Harini', (both short story collections) and novels 'Anek Putlar Natch' and 'Man Jonakir Path'.

He was also a former Inspector General (prisons) of police.
