Assamese litterateur Bireswar Baruah dies

Guwahati: Noted Assamese litterateur,
Bireswar Baruah died of heart attack in his residence here
on Sunday.

Baruah (77) is survived by his wife, one son and a
daughter.

He received Sahitya Akademy award for a collection of
poems `Anya Ek Jonak` in 2003. Among his other notable works
are `Nilimar Man`, `Ban Harini`, (both short story
collections) and novels `Anek Putlar Natch` and `Man Jonakir
Path`.

He was also a former Inspector General (prisons) of
police.
