Imphal: Normal life was affected in some
parts of Manipur hill districts following a bandh called by
Naga organisations on Tuesday.

Transport services between Manipur and neighbouring
states were cancelled because the Imphal-Dimapur NH 39 fell
within its purview, official sources said.
Shops were closed in some parts of Ukhrul, Senapati
and Chandel districts, they said.

The bandh called by the United Naga Council and other
organisations was in protest against enforcement of the
Manipur Hill Areas District Amendment Act (MHADAA) 2008,
the sources said.

The state government was planning to hold elections in
May to the autonomous districts councils in hill areas under
the MHADAA after several years, they added.

This was objected to by some Naga organisations
including UNC on the ground that not much power was given to
the councils under the MHADAA.
However, the government has denied the charges.
