Assam revenue minister Bhumidar Barman will be in charge of the state till Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi returned to the state after heart surgery in Mumbai.

In a two-paragraph communiqué to chief secretary N K
Das yesterday, Gogoi conveyed his decision for Barman to be in
charge to look after the state`s day-to-day affairs of
administration, including law and order, on behalf of the
chief minister, official sources said today.
Crucial decisions if needed on any issue would be
referred by seniormost minister Barman to the chief minister,
the sources said.

Transfers and promotions would remain halted till
Gogoi resumed office, the sources said.

The chief secretary informed Gogoi`s decision to the
Raj Bhavan, Barman, other ministers and senior officials of
the state, the sources said.
Gogoi was scheduled to undergo a bypass heart surgery
and aortic valve replacement at Asian Heart Institute in
Mumbai on August 4, the sources said.
