Shillong: BJP on Tuesday demanded a CBI probe
into financial anomalies in Meghalaya assembly secretariat
detected by CAG and resignation of Congress MLA M M Danggo,
the erstwhile speaker.

BJP general secretary Dipayan Chakraborty said the CAG
report of 2010-11 has revealed that during the period of
Danggo as speaker there was a multi-crore scam in the
secretariat and materials worth some crores of rupees went
missing from the Speaker`s official residence.
According to the CAG report, goods including CCTVs, air
conditioners, carpets, LCD, computers were not returned by
Danggo when he had vacated the speaker`s official residence in
May 2008.

The report, Chakraborty claimed, had unveiled that
there was `rampant corruption` in almost all departments of
the government.
``But the government is mum over the issue ... The
spineless Meghalaya government will turn a blind eye to it as
it had been doing always ... It intends to loot the tax
payers’ money in the name of development,`` he said.

Last year the CAG had uncovered the TA Bill scam, which
was referred to the assembly Public Accounts Committee (PAC)
but no step had been taken as yet.

``The people of the state cannot be deceived yet again
by passing the matter of anomalies in the assembly secretariat
to the PAC. All financial irregularities related to it should
be probed by the CBI,`` he said and demanded Danggo`s
resignation.
