Lakhimpur: The Brahmaputra and its
tributaries were flowing above the danger level in Assam's
Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts following incessant rainfall
for the past one week in which five persons have died,
officials said here today.
More than one thousand families in 20 villages have been
affected by the rise in the water levels of Brahmaputra and
its principal tributaries Subansiri, Ranganadi, Dikrong and
Singora, they said.
Road connectivity between Lakhimpur, Dhemaji and
Arunachal Pradesh has been affected following the submergence
of a causeway on NH-52 by the rising water of Ranganadi with
both heavy and small vehicles stranded since yesterday.
Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner Jayanta Narlikar today
visited the affected areas and directed the health, public
health and engineering and veterinary departments to expedite
relief measures for the benefit of the affected people.
The affected people have been provided with relief
materials and efforts are on to move them to safe places.
Assam experienced heavy rainfall for the last one week
claiming five lives.
