Aizawl: Bru National Liberation Front (BNLF)
on Tuesday urged the Centre and Mizoram government to resume the
process of repatriation of Bru refugees, now lodged in the six
relief camps in Tripura.
A press statement issued by BNLF, whose cadres
surrendered in 2005, demanded that the repatriation process,
derailed by the murder of a Mizo youth on November 13 be
resumed immediately.
"The gunning down of the Mizo youth was clearly an
attempt to derail the repatriation of Bru refugees in Tripura
in accordance with the agreement between the state government
and the Bru Coordination Committee at Aizawl on November
four," the statement said.
Condemning the killing of the Mizo youth, the BNLF urged
the government to arrest the killers and bring them to
justice.
It also condemned the subsequent torching of Bru villages
saying that innocent people suffered due to the acts of the
criminals.
"We urged the Mizoram government to be more proactive in
preventing communal violence from flaring up in the future,"
the statement added.
