Bru/Reang refugee repatriation to begin tomorrow

The 9th phase of repatriation of the displaced Bru/Reangs from Mizoram would begin tomorrow from Naisinghpara evacuee camp in Kanchanpur sub-division of North Tripura district, official sources said on Thursday.

Agartala: The 9th phase of repatriation of the
displaced Bru/Reangs from Mizoram would begin tomorrow from
Naisinghpara evacuee camp in Kanchanpur sub-division of North
Tripura district, official sources said on Thursday.
Sources said, the administration of Mamit district of
Mizoram sought the help of North Tripura district
administration for arrangement of vehicle for carrying the
displaced people to their ancestral home and providing
security upto Mizoram border and all arrangements were made
accordingly.

The 9th phase beginning from tomorrow would continue till
May 6 in which 4655 people of 890 families would return.

Sub-divisional Magistrate of Kwartha under Mamit district
of neighbouring Mizoram is supervising the process of
repatriation, sources added.
Seventeen people were charred to death in Naisingpara camp
on March 19 last in a devastating fire.

Bru/Reang people had taken shelter in six camps in North
Tripura district since 1997 following ethnic clashes with the
Mizos over land dispute.
