Agartala: BSF personnel would be deployed in the polling stations of Nalchar (SC) constituency, by election for which would be held on June 12, official sources said today.

The seat fell vacant following the death of ruling CPI-M legislator Sukumar Burman on March 10.

Chief Electoral officer Ashutosh Jindal said the Election Commission has instructed to deploy BSF in all the 38 polling stations of Nalchar constituency and the state police and state paramilitary Tripura State Rifles (TSR) would be deployed outside the polling stations for maintenance of law and order.

After Bihar and West Bengal, voter slips with photos would be distributed to voters by Booth Level Officers (BLO), he said, adding that different political parties would also be allowed to distribute voter slips if they want.

Jindal said only two nominations -- one from ruling CPI-M and another from opposition Congress were filed so far and added the last date of filing nomination would end tomorrow.

He said scrutiny of nomination would be on May 26, the last date of withdrawal of nomination is May 28. The counting would begin on June 15 and the entire process to be completed by June 18.

Altogether 33,392 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise.
