Guwahati: For the first time, a 24-hour call centre has been introduced by the Election Commission for the benefit of voters in the five states, including Assam, going to the polls next month.

Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi told reporters here Tuesday, "We have for the first time introduced a 24X7 call centre in all the five states going for Assembly

"By dialling 1965, which is common to all the five states going to polls, the voters can lodge a complaint or ask any question. These will be directly sent to the control rooms opened in the district deputy commissioner's office of the individual states," Quraishi said.

Stating ten phone lines were operating with young men and women attending to them, he said, dry runs were on for the launch on Thursday.

Assam is scheduled to go for the two-phase Assembly hustings on April 4 and 11.
